Recently got this lasses' album after getting her collaboration with David Byrne (which is very good). Quite liking it.

What a goal! Ben Arfa beats three men, one of them twice, and unleashes an absolute thunderbastard from close range!

I didn't even know who she was till I googled her when I heard about the Byrne thing lmao (I know next to nothing about Polyphonic Spree.)

Nice to see someone with real talent getting known in this ocean of popular musical shit we currently sail on.

aye, though hadn't heard of her either before friends dragged me to see her. Now you mentioned her, my next stop is record store :hi5:

Another highlight of the festival was them:

That's class. Bongo-Funk-Calypso (as it's known to afficionados  ) :music-rockout:

I've wasted a couple of hours this morning watching St Vincent youtube vids. She's a brilliant performer. I love this one I found (skip to 3 mins to the start of the track):

Great stuff. I've ordered the first album now as well. First recent artist I've liked for fucking ages lmao

Finding new music is weird business. Since the instruments & recording gear is so cheap these days, there should be million great bands to be found. And they're just a click away, but all that leads to listeners being spoilt for choice. Like walking past hundred restaurants on a city holiday and none seeming good enough, then ending up in McDonalds as you're starving

Another (well known) band I quite liked on the same festival. Listening to it now I'm not quite sure if it's just a cheap copy of White Stripes  (which itself was a luxury copy of many things).

I don't like a single thing I've ever heard by The Black Keys lmao

They don't sound in any way authentic to me. Noisy, awful tunes and lyrics. Just a muddle of 'rock 'n' roll' cliches with no real point of interest. Sorry like  lmao

Don't listen to the radio so I don't learn to hate the hits  .

But as a rule I loathe the produced "indie-let's-pretend-this-is-diy-sound".

That said, the gig was really good. Or maybe it was because they we're playing 11ish on a saturday night lmao

Aye that can be a factor. I saw The Darkness just before they got massive in a tiny venue in Newcastle. Huge noise, I'm surprised the building didn't fall down, great fun, plenty beer drunk and a good night. Bought their album and after a couple of plays found myself thinking 'why the fuck am I listening to this shit?' :laughing-rolling:

I love these songs. Apparently a couple of them did degrees in 'pop music' and it doesn't half show. The songs are chock-full of catchy hooks and licks, which I now can't get out of my head lmao

Cracking pop music Smoke Just bought tickets - no doubt I'll be the oldest cunt there :character-oldtimer:

catchy yes, but for some reason not amusing enough to listen to again. Not far from Vampire weekend, which I like.

the songs above however :greetings-clapyellow:

Amused me plenty Smoke I've always been interested in people going for a mainstream sound but still making proper music. Those tunes are great, interesting lyrics, he's got a great voice and he looks like he was born to be a front man. Also love the fact it all seems to be bursting with energy.

I'm a bit late to the party with these (only looked for them when Dave Rowntree namechecked them recently) and they already have a big following. They'll surely be huge in time.

Which songs above by the way? Sharon Jones?

Jones aye and stuff from previous page.

I'm always late with everything.

Didn't get a ticket for this guys gig as I only heard him a week before. Waited for him to come here again but then he died.

Three listens to Everything Everything's album Arc now and I like it better than any new album I've bought in a good few years (which, granted, is nowhere near as many as it would have been ten years ago :character-oldtimer: ).

Very dark in places, and you can tell they're big Radiohead fans (not in a bad way, they're not aping them or anything). Love it Smoke

Edit: just realised Everything Everything's name must (well might) be an allusion to this song.
