Been selecting on some tracks for my new mix past few days, been listening to Ragga House, Kenny Ken old mixes, and some Benzi/Diplo hip hop I got, samples Underworld Born Slippy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMCCKuEqgXE

Here's some more offa the album. 'tis quality

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7ghhX98sGM

(Eventually) been listening to some Tom Waits as well - Way Down in the Hole (good mix of that about with Blaqstarr and MIA as well) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87HHQmIQ8U8&feature=related

He's got a unique quality like, and makes me think my singing in me band wasn't that bad...decent
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw2MjRcVO4g&feature=related
Smoke

Like a few tracks, someone said about one of his videos;
Quote:
" love how every tom waits video is like some heroin soaked nightmare, its vaudeville meets hell"

I thought that was pretty apt. He's got a bit of theatrics going on, pishes all ower talent show things they have on tv nowadays. There is a gulf between good art and the saccharin coated, Rich-daddied, can't sing Katy Perrys of the world

I've seen that quote before, pretty good. Waits does 'act' his songs in a sense, and he's an actor as well of course.

But that mix you've linked is fucking wank lmao

Wasn't sure you'd appreciate that cover like :character-oldtimer:

Here's one of my own mixes if you want to hurt your ears any more, appreciate any followers my profile on here :violin:
http://www.mixcloud.com/jimmy_jay_uk/badlymixdboy/

Going to try and do a new one this weekender - I don't think that MIA cover will make the final cut, but she is a good singer/lyricist.
Did you hear Paper Planes song when it come out?

Those aren't my idea of good lyrics. Or good singing, or music. Or anything good at all really Smoke

I try to be open-minded about music but that's just crap.

I know people rave about The Wire. Since they're referencing Tom Waits I might give it a look actually.

Just started watching Treme now Ham Napper, do you watch that?

Lester and Bunk are in it. I've also noticed Stringer Bell in BBC's Luther, so will give that a watch soon too.

Downloaded the pilot ages ago but never got round to it. I gave Mad Men a go, that was awful.

Never bothered with Mad Men

Seriously watch Breaking Bad, it is brilliant - the writing and acting is brilliant, not loads of characters in it BUT still a quality show

I know all about his Morrissey-worship aye.

I remember a few years ago saying Sweet And Tender Hooligan could have been written about Barton, what with his constant fuck-ups followed by promises to 'never never never never never never do it again' in some interview or other.

He seems fairly balanced currently mind, which is decent Smoke

Don't often agree with PGF on footballers but the Sopranos and West Wing were top notch. Sopranos is my favourite TV show of all time.
lmao

The Wire was excellent
Breaking Bad is excellent

Three more recommendations; The Shield, Dexter and Sons of Anarchy.

Shield is finished now, same guy is making Sons of Anarchy. Both are mint. Smoke

I'm going to give Breaking Bad a chance when I've finished Treme, which isn't great but I'll carry on with it.

The TV shows I watch(ed) which are all brilliant:

Lost - :bow-blue: best TV show of all time for me, a lot of people lost patience with it and didn't want to or couldn't understand some of it, but for me, brilliant series
Dexter
The Wire
Treme
Arrested Development - most underrated comedy of all time I'd say
Curb Your Enthusiasm
The Office (US) - I love the UK Office and still quote it on a daily basis even now, but the US version has grown into it's own and is really a great comedy show once they did things their own way instead of trying to mimic our one (Season 2 onwards)
Game of Thrones
Boardwalk Empire
Idiot Abroad/Ricky Gervais Show - Karl Pilkington is good craic
How Not To Live Your Life - decent British comedy sitcom

So if you're looking for something raker, all those are good Smoke

I liked LOST but the drawn out ending - when I eventually watched the last series - was dissatisfying and pretty appalling by the standards it set itself
