I wonder if this story about Benitez being liable for a massive penalty for terminating is true then? I thought it was probably bollocks but fuck knows. If Benitez has signed that off he's clearly taken his eyes off what kind of bloke Ashley actually is. Ashley's got plenty of form for tying things / people up in contractual knots - see Rangers, and it's no doubt true of the various arrangements he has in place at Newcastle, although we're not privy to them.

Ah well, back to wall-to-wall shit we go. I suppose it's somewhat alleviated by having Benitez in charge but he's so financially hamstrung the best he can hope to do is make do and mend. The whole situation is another criminal waste, it's like employing a top surgeon to put the fucking stitches in. He's been Keegan-ed, and will no doubt be off next year if he can't get out this.

I reckon Bilic will get sacked from West Ham and then they'll pay the $5m for Benitez. Pennies for a top manager when you consider how much an average player is going for!

Well some daft cockney cunt paid £3mil for Parsnip not long back, so £5mil for a CL winner doesn't look that far-fetched. And West Ham wouldn't have a prayer of getting anyone else in of that calibre.

Benitez is obviously sickened by the way he's been let down, which won't exactly hinder their pursuit of him if the story is true.

Jimmy J's mate Luke Edwards:

Quote:
Anyone who has read the Harry Potter books, or seen the movies, will know what a Dementor is. The soul-sucking, joy-sapping tormenters who drain their victims of dreams, excitement and optimism, leaving an empty shell, devoid of imagination and barren of hope.

Mike Ashley is Newcastle United’s Dementor. He has been for a decade now. He is the weight around their neck, the concrete boots moulded to their feet, the chains around their wrist.

He will never change because he does not want to. He will continue to do as he pleases, because, as he said himself, even if he wants to sell – which he does – he cannot find anyone to pay the £450m+ asking price.

He is a chancer, a risk-taker, a bull in a world full of china plates. He is belligerent, stubborn, a genius in many ways. He is a self-made billionaire who turned a market stall into Sports Direct, one of the giants of the retail world. He is rich and getting richer. Do not make the mistake of underestimating him or his natural ability to make money.

But when it comes to football, Ashley has always been stupid. Even when he gets things right, he somehow manages to come up with the wrong answer in the end. This is a feature of his time on Tyneside and history is repeating itself as he pushes Rafa Benítez closer to the exit door.

Ashley made the correct call to appoint Kevin Keegan as manager during his first year as owner, but then made him effectively work for Dennis Wise, a strange choice as Director of Football and then fell out, after a few months, with him over transfers. He replaced him with Joe Kinnear.

He appointed Alan Shearer to try to save the club from relegation and then told him he wanted him to stay when they went down, only to then not bother returning his calls. A few years later, he changed the name of Shearer’s Bar, named in his honour, out of spite because the former Newcastle captain had become a vocal media critic.

He gave Chris Hughton his first chance as a manager and reaped the benefits with an instant return to the Premier League. He had a popular manager and a united club riding a wave of fresh optimism. Then he sacked him, with the club 12th in the table because he supposedly wanted more. Within a year, he had sold most of the players who had driven Newcastle to that point, because they dared openly to challenge him and his lieutenants.

He employed Alan Pardew, who somehow guided Newcastle to a fifth-place finish and European qualification. Ashley complained that they had missed out on the Champions League and then decided he could do everything on the cheap. He did not allow the squad to be improved or expanded, he just wanted a repeat of a fluky campaign while making a profit, plumping up the club’s accounts like a pig for market.

Pardew was a patsy, a yes man, forever grateful for the job he had been unexpectedly given. He put up with it, clinging on as manager long after the supporters turned again him during two successive relegation battles.

Then came John Carver and Steve McClaren. Two more yes men, two more years of misery and drift as Ashley went unchallenged by those he employed.

Newcastle had never been relegated from the Premier League until Ashley arrived. They have gone down twice since, falling through the trapdoor again in 2016.

Once more, Ashley, stumbled on the right decision. When Benítez said he would become manager, Newcastle somehow got one of the most revered coaches in world football to sit in the dugout. When he agreed to stay on after relegation, Newcastle were reborn, reunited. It felt like a new club again. Optimism soared, excitement increased, a city fell in love with its team again.

At first, Benítez was given everything he asked for. What Rafa wants, Rafa gets was the unofficial mantra behind the scenes.

But then, around Christmas time last year, something changed. Ashley, who had left the day to day running of the club to others, returned. He meddled, he questioned, he caused friction. He brought in Justin Barnes, an abrasive but trusted member of his inner circle.

Telegraph Sport understands it is now Barnes who effectively runs things at St James’ Park on Ashley’s behalf and it is Barnes who kept the purse strings tied tightly this summer. We are told Barnes is there to help sell the club, but when there are no buyers …

That is the beginning of the story now being written on Tyneside. Benítez was promised all the money from player sales a year ago but the £30m profit he made that summer disappeared. It was used to cover the losses of a season in the Championship, without explaining that to the manager.

Benítez bristled, but stayed. In the summer, he had a meeting with Ashley, only his second in a year. They talked, they thrashed things out. Benítez was promised “every penny” of the extra revenue generated by promotion. Things were good, things were positive.

Three months later, we have gone from the serene to the farcical. Newcastle spent roughly £35m in the summer, but the net spend is thought to be much lower, around £11m.

By most estimates, promotion to the Premier League generates at least £70m in extra revenue. Even if wages are included, Newcastle have not spent anywhere near that amount. Pertinently, Benítez reduced the weekly wage bill by roughly £200,000 in the final weeks of the transfer window, but still did not see any new signings arrive in that same period.

Newcastle have spent less than the two other promoted clubs, Brighton and Huddersfield. They have spent less than all of the teams who fought relegation and survived last season. They are once again trying to cut costs and corners. They have reverted to type under Ashley.

Benítez will be expected to keep them up this season and is good enough to do so, but he feels as though he was misled, at best. Ashley knows Benítez can keep his club up and has effectively gambled that the Spaniard will have nowhere else to go. He did not give him the money he needed because he did not believe he had to.

Staying up is all that matters, making the club as attractive to buyers is the priority. You could argue, that is all that has ever motivated Ashley, but why would Benítez stay to help with that?

Benítez wanted more, he believed he would be given more, he believed he could turn Newcastle into a proper football club again.

It feels like we have started the long goodbye as far as Benítez is concerned. Ashley, though, probably won’t be going anywhere. It is a depressing thought.

I don't know why anybody who supports the toon would be surprised by the events of the last few months. The fat cunt has done this since day one. He's fucked over the fans, players and managers every season since he bought us and he's made a profit every year while the sheeple line his pockets and bend over for another fucking. There'll be the usual gnashing of teeth and cries of planned protest before it becomes once again "support the team not the regime" :sleeping-yellow: and the fat cunt will continue to lie to the press and be allowed to get away with it while lining his pockets with millions and telling the sheeple his wealth is in shares :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: banghead banghead banghead . Everyone who bought a shirt, a season ticket or attended a match over the last 10 years well done. Mike Ashley loves you. (Well he loves your money - he's pissing himself laughing at you....... and he will continue to do so as long as you're stupid enough to cough up.)

An empty ground every week is the only way to get this cunt out. That and the Ronnie to print every day, every lie he's ever told and ask for an answer. Do it every day until he goes. From the lies he told Keegan, the promise of how much money he said he'd put in every year, the promise to deliver trophies (repeated at the end of last season), the lies to Shearer, the debt not being paid off, the annual profit he makes, the lies he told Benitez and that disgraceful PR interview he did with Sky. Yeah, I bet he'd love an Andy Carroll every 2 years at £35m a time and no reinvestment in the team. The abuse of the NUFC name as a cash cow to promote Sports Tat around the world and the fact he's quite happy for us to yoyo back and forth for the next ten years while he rapes our club and the "fans" will continue to turn up while the media brand them as deluded and you know what the media are spot on. Not for the reason they think - not because we think we have some divine right to have a successful team, or think we're a massive club or expect to win the PL NOW - they're deluded because they turn up every week strengthening Ashley's grip, allowing him to get away with it, proving we're what they say we are. Unless there is someone out there who is absolutely fucking mental and has the money to meet Ashley's demands for the buying price we only have a few hopes of getting rid of Ashley. Either the Premier League/Sky TV goes bust or the fans see sense and finally stay away. Neither of which I can see happening. banghead banghead banghead

It's just that he is such a cheap cunt! He could acctually increase the value of his club if he would invest in Rafa but he is just such a one track pony that he only the sports direct "scrape the barrel" shit that is frankly working well for him in his other business.
What is the point for him to own this club if he is not going to enjoy it.

He enjoys making money. It's got to be mainly about the benefit to SD, and he even said so a few years back when cornered by that journo (Simon Bird) who got into a shareholders AGM and managed to direct a question at him. Ashley almost certainly also believes the value of his PL club will keep rising as long as PL money does, and rewards are now far, far greater than they were when he bought it.

That was the only time up to that point he'd spoken publicly about owning the club other than his post-relegation script in 2009. Obviously he's done a couple of bullshit stage-managed Sky tv appearances more recently.

We've swung from the optimism of the Staveley takeover business to the familiar countdown to the end of another depressingly barren transfer window. It starting to look like he's actually going to give Benitez nix this time, fuck me lmao

Since I posted that an apparent breakthrough of sorts  Caulkin reckons Sturridge on loan is close. Hopefully there'll be a clause that bars him from doing that stupid fucking dance Smoke

Wait till Sturridge finds out there's only room for one ego in Pardew's world

Oh well another day, another deal the club fucks up. What's Shefki Kuqi up to these days?

Pochettino to Madrid rumour in the summer has resurfaced again. Got to imagine that Spuds would fancy Benitez as an option.

so everybody happy with TW ?

based on 30th of January status, aboslutely lmao
based on the squad and from end of summer TW, absolutely no, ridiculously shit team..

Kenedy showed climpses of talent yesterday and i think it highlights either the lack of quality that we have or the confidence of the squad ?

Well keeper and striker were our two most pressing needs so if both of these are upgrades (Slimani should be, no idea about the keeper) then it helps. Missed it last night but good to hear Kenedy started well. As for the outs, good luck to Mitro and Aarons, not so much to Ginger Jack Smoke

But 'happy'? Scratching about for loanees because our cunt of an owner won't spend the going rate is no cause for happiness :naughty: :snooty:

Dubravka will no doubt be first choice 'keeper. Darlow is :obscene-buttsway: and Rafa has never been keen on Elliott. A Chelsea loanee showed up a definite lack of quality in our current squad. Slimani has to start while the other two "forwards" get taken away for lessons involving a coo's arse and a banjo. Aye I'm fucking overjoyed at the amazing talent our club has bought ..........er.........borrowed..... banghead banghead banghead
